FairCom EDGE provides the power of a full-featured database that is designed specifically for IoT applications that run at or near the point where the data is collected. With FairCom EDGE, developers can embed or integrate a fast, transaction-controlled database into an edge-computing application.

Since FairCom EDGE can store data near its collection point, such as sensors, it provides autonomy in situations when communication with the cloud or on-premise data centers are slow or unavailable. This database makes it easy to aggregate data locally and send data summaries to the cloud or remote data centers. FairCom EDGE also eliminates bandwidth concerns since large amounts of data are not required to be transmitted to the cloud or remote data centers.

Furthermore, FairCom EDGE IoT Database opens the door for applications to make real-time decisions, augmented by local, historical data.  Whether it is an Industry 4.0 factory, a smart hospital, or smart city scenario, edge computing can make these decisions faster, smarter and more efficient for different operations. A database is a critical component for such applications, which is where FairCom EDGE IoT Database can make a difference.

FairCom database technology is known for its ability to be used with a plethora of platforms and operating systems. FairCom EDGE IoT Database is no exception. It is software that runs on almost all operating systems, such as Windows, Windows IoT, Linux, macOS, Raspbian. Released in 32-bit and 64-bit editions, it supports Intel and ARM processors, such as the Raspberry Pi, industrial PCs (IPCs), laptops, and high-end servers. It also runs on specific IPCs with integrated PLCs, such as the Siemens Simatic Nanobox and the Rockwell Allen-Bradley CompactLogix 5480 Controllers. This flexibility results in having the ability to run EDGE IoT Database in almost any environment - in a factory, hospital, store, bus, cell tower, stop light, device, remote data center and in the cloud.

The FairCom EDGE IoT Database also comes with additional technologies that make it easier to build edge applications that collect, transform, enhance, store, forward, and integrate data. These include a MQTT Broker, a REST API, Data Replication, RPC interfaces, and an App Server. These technologies are fully integrated with the database and each other, which makes the whole greater than the sum of the parts.

Through the embedded MQTT Broker, developers can use FairCom EDGE IoT Database to automatically store messages by simply exchanging messages with the database. When subscribers are inaccessible or with connectivity issues, FairCom EDGE will automatically forward those messages when subscribers are again available, guaranteeing data deliverability, and preserving the autonomous operation of the edge application. The REST API automatically makes collected data available to authorized applications, while use of FairCom Replication continuously clones data from a source database to one or more target databases. Finally, with the App Server developers can automatically serve up browser-based applications.

Also available to FairCom EDGE developers in a version dedicated to integration and data management, FairCom EDGE IIoT Hub. Specifically designed for the new Industry 4.0 edge computing applications,  the EDGE IIoT Hub includes the IoT Database plus a browser-based graphical user interfaces for point-and-click integration between MQTT, OPC UA, REST, SQL, and ThingWorx, a leading IIoT solution. It can store data near its collection point, such as data from factory equipment and sensors, as well as be used to send and receive data between the cloud and data centers. With little-to-no code, organizations can connect, monitor, and control factory equipment, PLCs, and sensors.
