Created as commercial project in 2013, FoundationDB has been acquired by Apple in March 2015 and was withdrawn from the market. As a consequence, the product was removed from the DB-Engines ranking. In April 2018, Apple open-sourced FoundationDB and it therefore reappears in the ranking.
Description | Ordered key-value store. Core features are complimented by layers. | Microsoft Access combines a backend RDBMS (JET / ACE Engine) with a GUI frontend for data manipulation and queries. The Access frontend is often used for accessing other datasources (DBMS, Excel, etc.) | A multi-model, scalable, distributed NoSQL database, designed to provide highly reliable, flexible, and available data management across a configurable set of storage nodes | Open source search engine for searching in data from different sources, e.g. relational databases
Primary database model | Document store supported via specific layer Key-value store Relational DBMS supported via specific SQL-layer | Relational DBMS | Document store Key-value store Relational DBMS | Search engine
