Specific characteristics | OceanBase Database is the world’s only native distributed database that has set new world records in both the TPC-C and TPC-H benchmark tests. It has been firmly supporting the Tmall Double 11 shopping event over the past consecutive ten years. Its creative solution of five IDCs across three sites sets a new standard for disaster recovery at city level. With integrated architecture, it achieves both the scalability of distributed databases and the performance of centralized databases. It can handle HTAP mixed loads with one set of computing engines at the same time. OceanBase Database features strong data consistency, high availability, high performance, online scaling, high compatibility with SQL standards and other mainstream relational databases, transparency to applications, and high-cost efficiency. |
Competitive advantages | - High Availability: The five IDCs across three sites disaster recovery solution sets a new standard for disaster recovery at city level.Based on the Paxos protocol for log transfer, OceanBase Database supports multiple data replicas and realizes automatical disaster recovery with zero data loss on ordinary servers.
- High performance: OceanBase adopts a read/write splitting architecture. Data is divided into baseline data and incremental data. The incremental data is stored in memory in the memtable format, and the baseline data is stored on SSDs in the SSTable format. You can only modify incremental data in memtables. All DML operations are performed on memtables, providing excellent performance.
- Real-time HTAP: With one single database, OceanBase Database can handle HTAP mixed loads with one set of high-performance parallel execution engines at the same time and isolates the computing resources of different workloads to keep away from resource contention.
- Super Scale: Perform horizontal scalings without influencing your business, and rapidly realize business scaling in/out.OceanBase Database supports thousands of cluster nodes, the maximum data volume of a single cluster can be more than 3PB, and the maximum number of rows of a single table can reach trillions.
- Cost Efficiency: OceanBase achieves a high compression ratio through data encoding and compression. Data encoding provides a series of encoding methods based on the value range and type information of different fields in the database relational table. Data encoding "knows" data better than general compression algorithms. Therefore, it offers a higher compression ratio.
- High Compatibility: OceanBase is compatible with common MySQL/Oracle features and frontend/backend MySQL/Oracle protocols. You can migrate businesses from MySQL/Oracle databases to OceanBase Database with zero or a few modifications.

Key customers | OceanBase Database has helped over 400 customers across industries upgrade their core systems, including: Find more OceanBase client reference. |
Market metrics | - TPC-C No.1 Performance, achieved a result of 707.35 million tpmC in the TPC-C benchmark based on ordinary cloud servers.
- TPC-H No.3 Performance, achieved a result of 15.27 million QphH@30,000GB in the TPC-H benchmark based on ordinary cloud servers.
